The Journal of Information Systems Education (JISE) invites submissions for a Special Issue titled “Agile in Teaching and Learning” expected to be published in early 2018.
In recent years the use of agile software development methods, or agile for short, has become increasingly popular as a way of producing software in a lighter, quicker, more people-centered manner. Agile represents an emerging set of software development methodologies based upon the concepts of adaptability and flexibility. Since the release of the Agile Manifesto in 2001, the popularity and use of agile has continued to grow. Specific agile methodologies such as Scrum and eXtreme Programming have gained widespread recognition. As such there has been a wealth of academic research published related to the implementation of agile in industry.
With the stronghold that agile has established in industry and subsequent industry-related academic research, its impact on information systems education and how graduates in the computing disciplines are being prepared in agile is growing in importance. The focus of this special issue is the implementation of agile in the classroom as it relates to both teaching and learning. The guest editors welcome papers describing how agile has been implemented into the classroom, how agile principles and practices have been used to improve teaching and learning, what the future of agile in education looks like, and other topics related to the use of agile in teaching and learning.
For this special issue of JISE, we invite the submission of high-quality, innovative, and insightful articles. Topics include but are not limited to:
Papers for this special issue are due on June 30, 2017 (extensions considered on a case by case basis). Prospective authors are welcome to submit an abstract to the Guest Editors for preliminary feedback on the appropriateness of their planned manuscript. Please send your submissions in Microsoft Word format by email to: Dr. Jason Sharp with a copy to Dr. Guido Lang. Papers should not exceed 7,000 words including all sections, figures, tables, and references. All papers will be blind peer reviewed and are subject to editing for journal style, clarity, organization, and space. Shorter teaching cases and experience reports (between 2,000 and 3,000 words) are also welcome. In the event that some papers submitted to this special issue are accepted for publication but cannot be accommodated within the special issue, those articles will be published within regular future issues.
